About Imperfect Guitarist

What I want for you is to have fun playing.

Lou

me.

Hi, my name is Lou, and welcome to my humble spot on the Internet. Considering the vast number of pages in this digital universe it’s something of an event that you have landed here and are reading these words.

I am a lifelong guitarist and a nearly-lifelong guitar teacher. A few years ago I relocated 2,000 miles to the western U.S. from the hustle-bustle of the mid-Atlantic region, and since then have been enjoying finding excellent musicians to jam with and new students to teach!

why imperfect?

I began learning guitar when I was around 10 years old. Here it is decades later and I’m still learning. It’s one of the many things I love about the instrument. I also love that I never play a riff exactly the same way twice (though I do try). I love that there are whole styles of playing I’ve never learned yet they still call to me, begging for my attention. When I finally get around to learning them I doubt I’ll do them perfectly. The imperfections are part of the fun for me.

Whether you are on a path to elite technical guitarist status or are just aiming to play lullabies for your kid, what I want for you is to have fun playing. I want it to be soothing, meditative, invigorating, inspiring, joy-inducing — it should be an activity that lifts you up and gives you, and maybe the people around you, a better outlook on life.

And I want to make it very clear that you don’t have to play perfectly to have a perfectly gratifying experience playing.
